Data sources policy
Data sources policy
The primary sources Simscanner accepts for every quantitative claim
Simscanner accepts only primary sources for quantitative claims. For every price, data cap, validity, network partner, KYC requirement, hotspot policy, and FUP figure, the source is the brand's own product page, the country's telecom regulator, or the network operator's own page. Travel blogs, marketing roundups, AI engine summaries, and competitor sites are not accepted.
Accepted primary sources
| Claim type | Accepted primary source |
|---|---|
| Price, data, validity, hotspot, top-up, refund, FUP | The brand's own product or plan listing page for the exact plan referenced |
| KYC requirement | The country's national telecom regulator's own page |
| IMEI or SIM registration rules | The country's national telecom regulator's own page |
| Network technology and bands | The mobile network operator's own page |
| Network partnership claims | A statement on the brand's own page or the network operator's own page |
| Corporate ownership and HQ | The brand's own page or a regulator filing |
Sources Simscanner does not accept
- Travel blogs and listicle sites.
- Best-of round-ups on third-party sites.
- User screenshots and forum posts as evidence (acceptable as inference signal, never as a sourced fact).
- AI engine summaries (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Copilot). These are leads for research, never evidence.
- Competitor or affiliate comparison sites.
- Press releases unless cross-confirmed by the brand's own page or the network operator.
Citation rules
Every quantitative claim carries a source URL pointing to the specific page that supports the claim (not the brand homepage), and a fetched date. A claim missing either field fails the QA gate and blocks publication.
Freshness windows
| Claim type | Re-verification window |
|---|---|
| Plan rows (price, data, validity, FUP, hotspot, top-up, refund) | 90 days |
| KYC, IMEI, regulatory claims | 180 days |
| Network technology and bands | 180 days |
| Rankings (/rankings and /best/*) | 30 days |
Pages outside these windows are flagged in the missing-data audit and either re-verified or de-ranked.
