Which eSIM has the best coverage?

Direct answer

Best country coverage is the brand with the largest published list of countries on plans Simscanner can verify against the brand's own product page. Marketing "100+ countries" claims do not count. Per-brand counts publish on /rankings when verified. The category definition lives on /how-we-score.

Preview state: no per-brand numeric values appear on this page. Per-brand wording publishes once read from a primary source and dated.

Methodology Sourced

What does eSIM "coverage" actually mean?

Coverage is the set of countries where a brand can give you a working mobile data connection on a given plan. A travel eSIM does not build its own towers. It rides on local mobile networks through roaming agreements, so a brand's reach in any country depends entirely on which local network partners it has signed there. Coverage is therefore a per-country fact, not a single global score.

Why do marketing "100+ countries" claims mislead?

A headline "100+ countries" figure usually counts every territory a brand can reach in any form, including roaming-only access and dependent territories that never appear as a buyable plan. It says nothing about how many local networks the brand uses in your destination, or whether a dedicated plan exists for it. Simscanner counts only countries with a plan published on the brand's own product page, so its figure is often lower than the marketing aggregate.

Regional versus global plans: which covers more?

A regional plan (for example one sold for Asia or Europe) bundles a fixed list of countries onto a single eSIM, which is convenient for multi-country trips inside that region. A global plan spreads across many regions but often leans on fewer local partners per country, so depth can be thinner than a country-specific plan. More countries on the label does not guarantee a stronger connection in any one of them. The published country list and local-network detail are recorded per plan with a retrieved date.

How Simscanner scores country coverage

Country coverage is one of five categories on how we score. A brand earns coverage credit only for countries where it publishes a buyable plan on its own product page, counted on the last reviewed date. Marketing aggregates and shaded coverage maps do not count. The full category definition lives at how we score, country coverage. The full methodology lives at methodology.

Coverage questions

Common questions about eSIM coverage

How does Simscanner count country coverage?

Country coverage is the count of countries with at least one verified plan listing on the brand's own product page, on Simscanner's last reviewed date. Brand marketing claims like "100+ countries" are not the source. Simscanner counts only what the brand publishes on a plan page.

Why does the marketing figure differ from Simscanner's count?

Marketing aggregates often include broader carrier-roaming reach, dependent territories, or non-published plan availability. Simscanner counts only published plan listings. The marketing figure and the verifiable figure often differ by 10 to 30 countries depending on the brand and the marketing era.

Does best coverage mean best for my trip?

Not necessarily. A brand with broad global coverage may publish weaker per-country plans than a brand with a smaller catalogue. The country page on Simscanner lists per-country comparisons. The best brand for a single trip depends on the per-country plans available.

Are coverage maps useful?

Marketing coverage maps are not used by Simscanner as a source. Maps often shade entire countries without indicating which networks the brand routes to, or what speed the plan delivers in different regions. Per-network mapping per country is recorded on country pages.

When will the global coverage ranking publish?

The /rankings#country-coverage band publishes verified positions once at least three brands have sourced per-plan country lists with retrieved dates inside the methodology review window. Until then, the band reads pending. The brand chip list inside the band confirms the canonical brand set Simscanner tracks for the coverage category.
